News

The job change market in the semiconductor industry is booming, so much so that it has been dubbed a “semiconductor bubble,” a seller’s market. According to a survey by Mynavi, the average annual salary of those changing jobs in the semiconductor industry is 5.3 million yen, up 2.2 times from 10 years ago for some companies. For those with experience, it is not uncommon to earn in excess of 10 million yen.

The top reason for changing jobs is “good salary” (50.8%), while the company’s future prospects and working environment are also highly rated. The semiconductor market continues to grow over the long term, although there are cyclical fluctuations.

Although the number of job openings is increasing, the number of applications is decreasing. One reason for this is the possibility of relocation due to the rural location of factories.

As government-supported efforts to manufacture advanced semiconductors continue in Japan, attracting young talent has become an issue.

Intel and AIST to develop base in Japan Cutting-edge semiconductor materials

Sep 3, 2024 By Nikkei

Intel Corporation and the National Institute of Advanced Industrial Science and Technology (AIST) have announced plans to establish a cutting-edge semiconductor R&D center in Japan in the next three to five years. The center will be the first research institute in Japan to install EUV lithography equipment, and plans to invest several tens of billions of yen. Companies will pay a usage fee and will be able to use this equipment for prototyping and testing. Technical cooperation and personnel exchange with the U.S. are also being considered.

The background of this initiative is the economic security importance of semiconductors and the difficulty of transferring research data overseas. The establishment of EUV equipment in Japan is expected to make it easier to utilize research results. Semiconductor manufacturing requires more than 600 processes, and the development of related equipment and materials is essential.

The establishment of this new base is expected to strengthen the collaborative relationship between Intel and domestic materials and equipment manufacturers. TSMC and Samsung are also moving to establish research bases in Japan, which is expected to increase opportunities for Japanese companies to acquire cutting-edge technologies.

Mitsubishi Electric Corporation to Establish Flagship Power Semiconductor Plant in Kyushu, Bringing Up Operation Ahead of Schedule

Sep 3, 2024 By Nikkei

Large investments in power semiconductors are underway in Kyushu. Mitsubishi Electric and ROHM are investing a total of over 400 billion yen to build new factories and production facilities. Power semiconductors are key components that determine the efficiency of EVs and power transmission and distribution systems, and demand for these components is rapidly increasing as we move toward decarbonization.

Mitsubishi Electric is building a new plant in Kikuchi City, Kumamoto Prefecture, which will be responsible for the front-end process of SiC wafers. 100 billion yen will be invested together with the plant in Koshi City, with plans to increase SiC power semiconductor production capacity by five times from the FY2010 level by FY26.

The power semiconductor market is expected to grow to 7.7757 trillion yen by 2035, with SiC semiconductors in particular expected to expand eightfold. Mitsubishi Electric is also investing about 10 billion yen in its Fukuoka City base to build a new building to consolidate back-end processing lines.

Mitsubishi Electric established an IC plant in Kumamoto in 1967, pioneering the shift to silicon islands in Kyushu. Currently, the company’s main focus is on power semiconductors, and it is promoting the development and application of SiC power semiconductors.

In 2010, he developed a high-voltage power semiconductor module for renewable energy facilities. We are promoting technological innovation from Kyushu toward the global decarbonization of the world.

List of Career Change x Trend News

[47,127,184,7,67,12,161
post-3158","post_interview","type-post_interview","status-publish","has-post-thumbnail","hentry","taxonomy_media-semiconductor","taxonomy_media-tsmc","taxonomy_media-184","taxonomy_media-7","taxonomy_media-67","taxonomy_media-12","taxonomy_media-x
["GET
