Turnpoint Consulting is<\/a> currently actively hiring!<\/strong> In order to give you a better idea of what it is like inside Turnpoint Consulting, we held a roundtable discussion with three of our employees. We are pleased to share with you how the three employees from different backgrounds came to Turnpoint Consulting, what they think about the company, and their outlook for the future.<\/p>\n\n

Tatsuya Kato | Tatsuya<\/mark>– Senior Consultant\/ IFS Team Leader<\/strong>After working for a trading company in the US, Tatsuya returned to Japan to manage a major English conversation school. After working in sales and management, he joined Turnpoint Consulting in 2020 as a consultant. Currently, as IFS (Importers & Financial Service) Team Leader, he is responsible for supporting other consultants while setting a good example for them.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n\n

Rory Harrison | Rory<\/mark>– Associate Consultant<\/strong>Born in Australia. After graduating from university, she moved to Japan and began her career as a teacher at a major English language school. She joined Turnpoint Consulting in 2023 and is currently a consultant in the STS (Software Tools & Semiconductor) team.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Julia<\/mark> Morita | Julia<\/mark>– Research & Customer Support<\/strong>is a native of the United States. After graduating from college, she came to Japan in 2021 and joined Turnpoint Consulting, where she worked as a consultant for one year before moving into customer support. She uses her market research skills and attention to detail to research new candidates and enhance customer service.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n\n

Nawon<\/mark>– Back Office Administration Staff<\/strong>is from Korea. She joined Turnpoint Consulting in 2023 and is in charge of recruiting, sales support, and internal communications. She is in charge of recruiting, sales support, and internal communication, and works hard to create a work environment where employees can enjoy their work. Q.Why did you join Turnpoint Consulting? <\/h2>\n\n
\"\"<\/figure>\n\n

Nawon<\/mark><\/strong> I joined Turnpoint Consulting, because I was looking for a company that was pretty small, so that I can know everyone and everyone knows me, which gives me more motivation to work. And I can also speak English, so I wanted to talk in English, and talk to foreigners who live in Japan.<\/strong> So that’s why I joined this company. <\/p>\n\n

Julia : I joined mainly because of Andre (our CEO).<\/mark><\/strong> I joined mainly because of Andre (our CEO).<\/strong>I had the interview with him. He gave me really good career advice.<\/strong> Ultimately, I decided to join. Sales wasn’t something I was super strong in, but I knew it super strong in, but I knew it is a useful skill to have, so I wanted to build it up here. <\/p>\n\n

Nawon<\/mark><\/strong> How about Rory?<\/p>\n\n

Rory<\/mark><\/strong> Rory : Because of Tatsuya.<\/p>\n\n

Nawon<\/strong>: Then maybe Tatsuya should talk first.<\/p>\n\n

Tatsuya<\/mark><\/strong> I’ve already decided to leave my former company. I wanted to change my career. I thought, at that time, it was really similar to my job at that time<\/strong>, where I can use my experience and use English<\/strong> as well. Nawon.<\/mark><\/strong> : And then you introduced Rory.<\/p>\n\n

Tatsuya<\/mark><\/strong> Tatsuya : Yeah.<\/p>\n\n

Rory.<\/mark><\/strong> : But I mean, for me, similar reasons too, though. I was wanting to change my career, using previous skills in some way different.<\/strong> Rory : But I mean, for me, similar reasons too, though.<\/p>\n\n

Nawon<\/mark><\/strong> : So it’s pretty much similar reasons, wanted to use our skills plus English, and felt the connection with Andre by talking to him.<\/p>\n\n

Q. Has the impression on the company changed after joining here? <\/h2>\n\n
\"\"<\/figure>\n\n

Nawon<\/mark><\/strong> For me, it changed a lot.<\/strong> I thought it would be only sales oriented, and I didn’t expect the atmosphere it would be this friendly. I wonder what kind of impression you guys had after joining. <\/p>\n\n

Julia<\/mark><\/strong> Julia : Do you remember me? (laughs)<\/p>\n\n

Rory<\/mark><\/strong> : Maybe a stereotype of consulting or recruiting is, you’re in teams, but it’s all super individual. I mean, there’s always going to be that aspect in the job, but it doesn’t feel like it’s the number one thing here. For example, you hear about a lot of other agencies that are very individual. Here, it’s like, of course you have your things you need to do, but the team aspect seems to be first or feels like<\/strong> it’s first<\/strong>. So, yeah, that was maybe an impression more of the industry or the job than the company .<\/strong> <\/p>\n\n

Julia : I agree.<\/mark><\/strong> When I joined, I only had an image of what a traditional Japanese company might be like, so I didn’t know what to expect. But the atmosphere was more laid back<\/strong> – for example, I didn’t have to clock in and out for lunch on the That was a little culture shock. <\/p>\n\n

Tatsuya<\/mark><\/strong> Tatsuya: It’s flat, isn’t it?<\/p>\n\n

Julia<\/mark><\/strong> Julia : Yeah, it’s pretty flat. It’s pretty flat.<\/p>\n\n

Rory<\/mark><\/strong> Rory : Flatter than I expected.<\/p>\n\n

Nawon<\/mark><\/strong> : I don’t think all Gaishi-companies are like this, so, I think it’s pretty different from other companies. <\/p>\n\n

Q. When do you feel rewarding during the work? <\/h2>\n\n
\"\"<\/figure>\n\n

Julia<\/mark><\/strong> Maybe this is due to being in the back-office, but I feel like there is a lot of flexibility.<\/strong> Basically, I can work with discretion<\/strong>, rather than being micromanaged<\/strong> where there is a lot of flexibility<\/strong>. Basically, I can work with discretion, rather than being micromanaged where you are told to \u201cdo this, do that,\u201d instead it is an open discussion, \u201cwe want to achieve this goal, how can we get there?\u201d It’s kind of up to you. <\/p>\n\n

Nawon<\/mark><\/strong> If I have something to say, whether it’s to my team members, or my manager or Andre, I’d just go there and talk. It’s really fast. I think that’s a pretty good point when we’re especially working on a contract or something. But I think the sales part will be pretty different from back office. <\/p>\n\n

Tatsuya<\/mark><\/strong> Our side of success is, getting money, hitting target, but most importantly, getting money, hitting target, but most importantly, hitting target, but most importantly, getting money, hitting target, but most importantly, hitting target. That is what’s important. <\/strong><\/p>\n\n

Rory.<\/mark><\/strong> I can’t add much more to that. It’s probably the same feeling whether it’s from candidates or from clients. That gratitude does feel good. <\/strong><\/p>\n\n

Nawon<\/mark><\/strong> I think that might be really in our corporate value, because we have \u201crespectful\u201d as our corporate modal. That’s why I think the clients are having more gratitude towards consultants. Q. Which of our corporate values are important at work? <\/h2>\n\n
\"\"<\/figure>\n\n

Julia<\/mark><\/strong> I think it’s really important that we’re always striving to improve ourselves, not necessarily competing with each other, but how we can work together and, ultimately, be the best version of ourselves, and continue to improve<\/strong>. ourselves, not necessarily competition with each other, but how we can work together and, ultimately, be the best version of ourselves, and continue to and continue to get better.<\/p>\n\n

Nawon<\/mark><\/strong> We also have like a bookshelf that people can borrow books about being a professional, becoming good at sales or being more informative about the industry. Also, the language learning support from the company, I think that helps us more in \u201cContinuous Improvement\u201d. <\/p>\n\n

Rory.<\/mark><\/strong> : I guess on the sales side, a lot of them, like \u201cCommitted,\u201d \u201cTrustworthy\u201d and \u201cProfessional.<\/strong>\u201d Deliver your promise whether it’s to a candidate or to a client, you’re going to get that respect If you’ve been committed to delivering on that, that’s obviously something quite good. <\/p>\n\n

Q. What do you like about Turnpoint Consulting beyond job-related aspects? <\/h2>\n\n
\"\"<\/figure>\n\n

Tatsuya<\/mark><\/strong> As I told you, quite flat, allows you to work individually, but sometimes, of course, we can support each other working in a team.<\/strong> <\/p>\n\n

Nawon<\/mark><\/strong> For me, it’s like flexible time<\/strong> because it depends on the day my condition differs. So I think that makes my work a little more efficient, which I think is important. I think is important. <\/p>\n\n

Rory<\/mark><\/strong> : You basically said all the good parts.<\/p>\n\n

Q. What do you want to do\/ be in the future at Turnpoint Consulting? <\/h2>\n\n

Tatsuya : Manager.<\/mark><\/strong> Right now, I’m a team Leader, so next I will be a manager to support others because I have a lot of work experiences more than most of the members .<\/strong> I will be a manager to support others because I have a lot of work experiences more than most of the members.<\/p>\n\n

Rory<\/mark><\/strong> I want to be your manager. (Laughter) Manager’s managers. For me, not so much the title of being manager, but the responsibility is more attractive. want to say like oh, I’m the manager, but more for the guidance or support for other people<\/strong> is a big thing for me. <\/p>\n\n

Julia : (Nodding)<\/mark><\/strong> : (Nodding) In the sense of responsibilities, like being in a place where I can make the biggest impact on the company and beyond.<\/p>\n\n

Messages for those who are interested in Turnpoint Consulting <\/h2>\n\n

Tatsuya<\/mark><\/strong> We need competitive, committed on the target, kinds of guys. Our job is, of course, sometimes hard, sometimes enjoyable, but basically, we need to be hitting the target and committing our clients as well. Sometimes we need to be competitive just by ourselves. If you can be COMPETITIVE with yourself, you will thrive here!<\/strong><\/p>\n\n

Julia<\/mark><\/strong> If you are somebody who is interested in working in a supportive environment<\/strong> where you can also challenge yourself to develop your skills, grow as a<\/strong> professional, and work closely with the people around you<\/strong>, I think this is a nice place.<\/p>\n\n

Rory<\/mark><\/strong> I think the mix of both. maybe on the sales side or on the consultant side, the competitiveness and aggression is needed, but on the teamwork aspect, the openness is important. Being able to play both sides, like \u201cI need to be aggressive so I can get this thing done or achieve this goal\u201d but also like \u201cwe are doing this together, but I’ve got this individual thing\u201d so someone that can balance that individuality and teamwork would be good.<\/strong> <\/p>\n\n
