Space Component Engineer

You will be responsible for selecting and evaluating electronic and optical components for space communication systems and related equipment, as well as reflecting them in system design.

This position is not just about component procurement or management; from a systems engineering perspective, you will evaluate whether the system operates reliably in space environments and whether the system as a whole is feasible, and drive development. You will collaborate with in-house hardware engineers, specialists from various fields, external component manufacturers, and technical partners to support the development of highly reliable space equipment.

Job Description

  • Responsibilities
    Selection and evaluation of space components

    - Selection
    of electronic and optical components for space equipment and communication systems - Formulation and review
    of compliance assessment policies for space environments such as radiation, temperature, vibration, and vacuum - Implementation and review
    of derating, margin design, and reliability evaluation - Preparation and standardization of BOM (Bill of Materials) and consideration of alternative parts

    Reflection in System Design

    - Reflecting
    component specifications such as radiation resistance, temperature tolerance, and electrical characteristics in system and subsystem design - Collaborating with engineers from FPGA, high-speed digital circuits, power supplies, analog circuits, and optics to optimize
    overall system performance and reliability - Organizing and proposing design trade-offs based on component-level constraints

    Technical Coordination Vendor Management

    - Technical consultations and negotiations
    with component manufacturers, specialized trading companies, and space-related companies - Acquisition and analysis
    of radiation test data, evaluation reports, failure analysis reports, etc. - Coordination of technical requirements with customers, system integrators, and related organizations

    Standards, Quality Assurance, and Process Development

    - Investigation and application
    of domestic and international space-related standards and guidelines - Establishment
    of internal component selection processes, checklists, and design templates - Analysis of causes in case of defects and formulation of recurrence prevention measures
  • Requirements
    - Background in engineering fields such as electrical and electronic engineering, communications engineering, or control engineering
    - Experience in component-related work for spacecraft or space-based equipment
    Examples: Electrical design of satellite buses and payloads; selection and evaluation of space-qualified EEE components and optical components, etc.

    - Practical experience in any of the following areas:
    Design and evaluation of optical sensors, photodetector systems, optical modules, etc.
    Radiation-hardened evaluation, RHA, derating, and margin design

    - Ability to communicate technically with component manufacturers and technical partners
    - Experience applying component-level knowledge to system or subsystem design
    - Experience in formulating requirements specifications, organizing technical requirements, and evaluating design trade-offs
  • Preferred
    - Understanding circuit configurations utilizing FPGAs and related design and evaluation experience
    - Experience
    at space component manufacturers or space-related companies - Experience
    in developing optical communication equipment, communication infrastructure equipment, and high-reliability devices - Design and testing
    experience based on space-related standards such as ECSS, JAXA, NASA - Technical communication experience in English with overseas vendors and technology partners
