The Lead UX/UI Designer acts as the key interface between automotive OEM customers and internal design, software, and system engineering teams.
Rather than spending the majority of the role creating designs directly, the position focuses on understanding customer concepts and requirements, translating them into clear internal requirements, and proposing UI/UX solutions that balance customer expectations, user experience, design quality, and technical feasibility.
The role covers automotive digital interfaces including instrument clusters, ADAS displays, Head-Up Displays (HUD), and infotainment systems featuring advanced 2D/3D graphics, animations, and next-generation HMI technologies.

- Responsibilities
- Act as the primary UI/UX interface between Japanese OEM customers and internal development teams
Understand customer requirements, design concepts, and future HMI expectations
Translate customer needs into clear and actionable requirements for design, software, and system teams
Propose appropriate UI/UX and interaction solutions while considering technical and software implementation constraints
Lead customer discussions to clarify project scope, requirements, effort, and deliverables
Plan and manage UI/UX activities from initial concept through development and implementation
Review design outputs and ensure consistency, usability, and overall design quality
Coordinate designers and manage workloads, priorities, and project deliverables
Create and review user flows, wireframes, prototypes, interaction concepts, and design specifications when required
Collaborate closely with HMI software developers on complex interaction systems
Support user research, usability testing, and validation of design decisions
Contribute to UI design systems, style guides, and component libraries
Manage design activities within an Agile environment, including sprint planning, estimation, resource planning, and JIRA management
Collaborate with multinational design, product management, engineering, and software teams
Build and maintain strong working relationships with OEM design organizations

- Requirements
- Experience in UI/UX, interaction design, visual design, or a closely related field
Strong understanding of user-centered design and UI/UX development processes
Hands-on experience with design tools such as Figma, Adobe Photoshop, and Adobe Illustrator
Experience working directly with customers and internal stakeholders to clarify requirements and propose design solutions
Ability to understand technical constraints and translate between design requirements and software/system development teams
Experience reviewing design deliverables and providing clear direction or feedback
Strong project coordination and communication skills
Fluent Japanese and Business-level English
Degree or diploma in Product Design, Transportation Design, Interaction Design, User Experience Design, Visual Design, or a related design discipline

- Automotive UI/UX or automotive HMI experience
Experience with instrument clusters, HUD, infotainment, ADAS displays, or digital cockpit products
Experience working directly with Japanese automotive OEMs
Experience with interactive prototyping tools such as Figma or ProtoPie
Experience with Adobe After Effects or motion graphics
Understanding of vehicle ergonomics, cockpit controls, and relevant automotive design standards
Experience working within Agile development environments using JIRA
Experience mentoring or coordinating other designers
Active driving experience and understanding of real-world vehicle HMI usage
