A Japanese deep-tech startup established in April 2024, specializing in the development of autonomous driving systems for heavy-duty trucks. The company aims to transform Japan’s logistics industry by addressing challenges such as driver shortages, an aging workforce, and increasing freight transportation demand. Focusing on autonomous highway transportation, it develops advanced AI-powered technologies designed to improve transportation safety, operational efficiency, and logistics sustainability. Through collaboration with automotive manufacturers and logistics companies, the company is working toward the commercialization of autonomous trucking solutions and the development of next-generation automated freight transportation infrastructure in Japan.

This role involves the behavior and ODD of L4 autonomous trucks, and takes the product into logistics customers' operations and commercial use. It turns driving scenarios, system constraints, customer operating needs, and deployment requirements into product definitions that collaborate with planning and control, validation, and release, while working with customers to move from PoC toward commercial operation.

Job Description

  • Responsibilities
This role involves the behavior and ODD of L4 autonomous trucks, and takes the product into logistics customers' operations and commercial use. It turns driving scenarios, system constraints, customer operating needs, and deployment requirements into product definitions that collaborate with planning and control, validation, and release, while working with customers to move from PoC toward commercial operation.

    Responsibilities
Define autonomous-driving behavior and ODD boundaries for freight scenarios such as highway line-haul, including entry and exit conditions, degraded-mode behavior, and operating constraints.

・Turn customer operating needs, safety requirements, and real-road conditions into PRDs and scenario boundaries, covering driving behavior, scenario handling, and how system capability evolves.
・Define scenario acceptance criteria, including disengagement rate, MPI, and scenario pass rate, set the handling rules for unexpected behavior, and run on-vehicle and simulation acceptance.
・Own requirement reviews, prioritization, and release for behavior-related features, based on ODD expansion goals, system limits, validation results, and field feedback.
・Align with the planning and control, systems, simulation, validation, and operations teams on the technical approach, and drive tradeoffs among capability goals, safety constraints, and engineering readiness.
・Work with the commercial team and with logistics companies and fleet operators to understand freight workflows and what they will pay for, and take part in the solution, the PoC, and the delivery boundary.
・Track operating data and field feedback after deployment, turn issues into changes in behavior, the ODD, or how the vehicle is operated, and move customers from PoC toward commercial operation.
  • Requirements
・5+ years in product management, including 3+ years in autonomous driving (L2+ or L4).
・Ownership of behavior definition, scenario definition, or capability boundaries for autonomous driving, including PRDs and acceptance criteria written firsthand, such as disengagement rate, MPI, or scenario pass rate.
・A working grasp of how the ODD, system capability boundaries, scenario coverage, and release decisions interact, including deciding whether a behavior belongs in the current release.
・Working knowledge of perception, prediction, and planning and control, sufficient to discuss behavior logic, system constraints, and validation impact with algorithm and test teams.
・Judgment on how ISO 26262 and ISO 21448 (SOTIF) affect behavior definition, degradation strategy, and deployment scope.
Professional working proficiency in English, or conversational Japanese.
  • Preferred
    • Autonomous-driving experience with commercial vehicles or heavy trucks, including line-haul and dedicated-lane freight.
    • A track record of moving a customer from PoC to a commercial contract or renewal.
    • Direct work with a logistics company, fleet operator, or OEM, taking requirements through to a solution, deployment, or acceptance.
    • Follow-through with the planning and control, simulation, or validation teams on road-test issues until they land in a later release.
    • Experience with pricing, TCO, or business-model design.
    • Familiarity with an autonomous-driving approval or demonstration program in a specific market, and how it limited the ODD or the degradation strategy.
  • Location
    Tokyo
  • Work Style
Remote working possible, Flex working possible
  • Salary
    ¥8,000,000~¥15,000,000
  • Attractive
    Points
Japanese company with global opportunities, Weekends and holidays off, Major corporation
