System Validation & Test Engineer

In this role you will be responsible for the validation and evaluation of automotive electronic control units used in lighting products for a major Japanese automotive manufacturer.

The role involves developing validation methods, executing software and system tests, analyzing test results, investigating failures, and supporting continuous quality improvement. You will also interpret English specifications created by overseas development teams and translate them into practical validation requirements for Japan.

This is a hands-on system validation position requiring solid knowledge of automotive communication, ECU behavior, CAN, and CANoe. You will work closely with engineering teams in Japan, China, and France while communicating with the customer in Japanese.

Job Description

  • Responsibilities
    System Validation & Testing
    ・Plan and execute system validation activities for automotive ECUs and lighting-control products.
    ・Develop appropriate test methods based on customer requirements, system specifications, and expected ECU behavior.
    ・Conduct software, functional, and system-level evaluation using CANoe and related automotive testing tools.
    ・Verify ECUs developed by internal engineering teams and confirm that the systems operate as intended.
    ・Conduct vehicle-level testing when practical evaluation using an actual vehicle is required.

    Test Analysis & Quality Improvement
    ・Analyze validation results and identify gaps against customer or system requirements.
    ・Investigate failures, determine likely root causes, and coordinate corrective actions with relevant engineering teams.
    ・Prepare evaluation reports and clearly document non-compliance, defects, and recommended improvements.
    ・Contribute to software quality improvement, recurrence prevention, and validation-process enhancement.
    ・Identify technical risks and propose new testing methods, tools, or solutions.

    Requirements & Technical Documentation
    ・Review and understand English-language specifications, design documents, and technical materials prepared by overseas development teams .
    ・Translate and adapt overseas requirements into Japanese validation specifications and customer-facing documents.
    ・Prepare and maintain test specifications, validation reports, technical documentation, and internal design records.
    ・Ensure that testing and documentation follow internal engineering standards and development processes.

    Global & Customer Coordination
    ・Coordinate technical topics, design content, test methods, and validation results with overseas development teams.
    ・Communicate with teams in China and France through meetings, email, and technical reviews.
    ・Support technical discussions and reporting with the Japanese automotive customer.
    ・Work cross-functionally with software, hardware, system-design, project, and quality teams.

    Technical Leadership & Improvement・Share
    validation knowledge and provide technical support to junior engineers.
    ・Promote efficient development and testing practices through digital tools and process improvement.
    ・Support development activities while considering project schedules, quality targets, and budget requirements.
    ・Contribute to the creation of technical ideas, innovations, and intellectual property where applicable.
  • Requirements
    ・Minimum five years of experience in system validation, system testing, or automotive ECU evaluation.
    ・Ability to independently design test methods and execute validation activities.
    ・Practical experience using CANoe.
    ・Experience with automotive components or automotive electronic systems.
    ・Strong knowledge of CAN communication.
    ・Ability to understand how an ECU or system should operate and verify its behavior accordingly.
    ・Business-level Japanese for internal meetings, documentation, and customer communication.
    ・Conversational to business-level English, with willingness to communicate with overseas engineering teams.
  • Preferred
    ・Academic or professional background in electronics, electrical engineering, telecommunications, or embedded systems.
    ・Experience evaluating automotive software or embedded ECU functionality.
    ・Experience converting English specifications into Japanese test requirements or validation documents.
    ・Experience with automotive communication protocols and signal analysis.
    ・System-design or system-engineering experience with an interest in moving into validation.
    ・Experience working with global engineering teams.
    ・Experience testing lighting ECUs, body-control systems, or similar automotive electronics.
    ・Knowledge of automotive development processes and validation standards.
    ・Experience preparing failure-analysis reports and technical presentations in Japanese.
    ・Interested in improving processes rather than simply executing existing test procedures.
