The HR Operations & Payroll Specialist is responsible for ensuring accurate and timely payroll processing, managing HR operational processes, and maintaining compliance with Japanese labor law and social insurance requirements. This role plays a critical part in supporting employees and management through efficient HR services, data management, and operational excellence.

Job Description

  • Responsibilities
    Administer and process monthly payroll, bonuses, and year-end adjustments in compliance with Japanese labor and tax regulations
    Manage employee lifecycle operations, including onboarding, transfers, contract management, and offboarding
    Oversee social insurance, benefits administration, and statutory reporting requirements
    Maintain HR data integrity in HR systems (HRIS) and generate reports to support decision-making
    Respond to employee inquiries regarding payroll, benefits, and HR policies, ensuring high-quality service and compliance
    Support audits and liaise with external payroll vendors, benefits providers, and regulatory bodies
    Develop and improve HR operational procedures to increase efficiency and accuracy
    Ensure compliance with internal policies, labor law, and social insurance requirements
    Contribute to HR projects related to system upgrades, process improvement, and compliance initiatives
  • Requirements
    5+ years of HR experience with a focus on payroll and HR operations
    Strong knowledge of Japanese labor law, payroll processes, and social insurance
    Experience with HRIS, payroll systems, and data reporting
    Business-level proficiency in both Japanese and English
    Accuracy, attention to detail, and ability to manage confidential information
    Experience collaborating with external vendors and auditors
  • Preferred
    Automotive or manufacturing industry experience
    Involvement in HR system implementation or process automation projects
    Familiarity with global HR operations and reporting requirements
