What is a resume?

It is a document that describes your past work experience, professional abilities and knowledge, and achievements. While a resume has a certain format, a resume is a document that expresses and appeals to your experience and personality, so there is no set style.

Hiring managers look at a resume to determine whether it matches the type of person they are looking for and their practical skills, so the information you want to convey needs to be carefully considered.

The order in which you summarize should be to start with your most recent experience and work backward. Startup companies and foreign companies in the mobility vehicle industry tend to place particular emphasis on “job-based employment,” so start with your most recent experience to see what makes you a good match for the job.

Format.

Ideally, 2-3 ☑ A4 size
not too short and not too long. Too much volume will blur your points.

☑ Use numbers and specific keywords.
The resume is intended to verify the applicant’s accomplishments and skills. Be specific about your abilities and showcase them in a logical and solid manner.

☑ Be aware of the layout.
A resume that is not organized in appearance is so much to be evaluated. Use bullet points and lines to make the layout easy to read so that you can see what you are trying to convey. And while boldface emphasis is fine, highlighting and coloring is not common and should be avoided.

☑ Use images and portfolios. *For artistic positions:
For artistic positions, you may attach images. We also recommend that you put them together in a separate document as a portfolio.

Formats for Engineers

Describe in detail all the technologies you have actually used, including programming languages, frameworks, tools, and libraries. If you prepare a separate box from the job description and write in parallel with the relevant job, it will be easier to understand at which point in your career you learned and used which technologies, and you will be able to show your abilities more effectively.

Don’t forget to mention the size of the projects you worked on and the position you held within the project. Clearly stating the scope of your responsibilities will help the recruiter better evaluate your work experience.

➊ Job Summary

This part is especially important because it is a summary of the content. A busy hiring manager may read only this part and decide whether or not to read the whole thing in depth, so make sure your summary is relevant and interesting. If you have a wide range of work experience, it is especially important to summarize the experience that you have picked up and want to highlight in accordance with the job description.

  • Approximate length is 3-5 lines.
  • Summarize numbers and other concrete facts (5W1H such as When, How, etc.) and achievements in one sentence.
  • List experiences that match the jobs and add keywords that will get noticed.
  • Read it over and see if you can visualize what the person looks like when someone reads it for the first time. You may also ask a family member or friend to check.

❷ Employment history

This section clearly explains what kind of company and what role it has played.

♦ Achievements

No matter what type of job you are applying for, be sure to include a section for accomplishments. It is best to have specific numbers, but if you don’t have numbers, describe what results or impact you have had.

  • Sales related: how much revenue did it actually bring to the company?
  • Back-office related: cost savings, operational efficiencies, what positive impact has it had on the company?
  • Engineer-related: What difference did you see in the results before and after the development? How did you solve the problem to achieve your goal?

♦ Clients and products in charge

Describe the products and services you handle and thecustomers and suppliers you have handled, so that those reviewing the documents can get an idea of what they are looking for.

♦ Summary of Operations

The work summary is a brief, fact-based summary of your role that you have been involved in doing the work.

For example, in the case of sales planning, did you collect data through market research, or did you actually use the data to develop a plan, or were you in a position to implement the plan? Please summarize briefly so that we can understand your specific role.

❸ Experience that can be utilized

This part highlights the experience you can bring to bear on the job.

Gather information from job offers and recruiters about what the company is looking for, and summarize it in 3-4 pieces, including both hard skills such as expertise and technical skills and soft skills such as communication and leadership skills.

❹ Qualifications, skills, etc.

Summarize your PC skills and qualifications in bullet points, along with specific levels, including those that are versatile.

You do not need to list all of your qualifications, but rather focus on the points you want to emphasize to the company to which you are applying and the skills relevant to the position.

Example:

  • Office products (Word, Excel, Access, Power Point)
  • Systems (SAP, Salesforce, Oracle)
  • Language skills (TOEIC, Practical English Proficiency Test, Japanese Language Proficiency Test)

Work experience: document reading, email exchange, presentations

  • Automobile mechanic license. Hazardous materials handler.
  • Low-voltage electrical control safety and health training completed

❺ Self-Promotion

Summarize your strengths and appealing points in a way that conveys your personality and how you tackled issues and goals. Since the points required differ depending on the type of job, such as project management, engineering, or sales, we recommend that you use skills related to the type of work you do. In addition, examples of your actual activities will help us understand your personality and create a better image of you.

If there are too many to narrow down, one way to do so is to check the corporate values of the company. It is effective to present yourself in terms that are similar to the values that the company as a whole holds dear, as they will match the employer’s perspective as well.

Example of self-promotion:

Execution and Completion Skills
At XX, where I work, we have consistently recorded high customer satisfaction levels. In order to maintain this high level, we set our targets higher than the national average. Specifically, to improve the skills and efficiency of each staff member, I have taught and coached my own skills, and as a trainer, I have created training materials and held coaching meetings for sales staff nationwide about 30 times so far. I have also held 2 conference calls in English per month to prepare coaching materials and to receive feedback, and I have interpreted for overseas trainers on 5 occasions.

Ability to coordinate between the global headquarters and local subsidiaries
○○Automotive’s global headquarters does not simply pass down its decision-making policies to local subsidiaries on a top-down basis, but has been particularly conscious of regularly checking the status of what is happening locally and building relationships in each coordination process. As a member of the region, I have also been committed to close communication by voluntarily sharing information and problems I have gathered with the leaders of each department in a cross-functional manner, and I have been conscious of avoiding temperature differences in decision making. I have been working on each project by making full use of my communication and relationship-building skills with the help of my language skills.

Planning and proposal skills
As a marketer, I have focused on presentation skills. I have experience in preparing brief summaries of proposal points for clients, preparing materials for internal approval, and preparing and presenting various patterns of materials. In particular, at the twice-monthly decision-making sessions at 00 Motors, I was given only 5 to 10 minutes of executive time, so I developed my ability to summarize everything concisely in a single A4 document and my proposal-making skills.
