Competition for Semiconductor Talent Intensifies: Job Openings Increase 14-fold, Annual Salaries Rise

The semiconductor industry is experiencing a serious shortage of human resources. The market is expanding due to strengthening economic security and the spread of AI, and large-scale factories are being built in Japan. According to a survey by Recruit, the number of related job openings has increased 14-fold over the past 10 years.
In particular, labor shortages are noticeable in Kyushu, where TSMC has advanced, and Hokkaido, where Rapidus is preparing for semiconductor mass production. Jobs with annual incomes of 6 million yen or more are also on the rise.
JEITA estimates that the nine major companies will need approximately 43,000 human resources over the next 10 years. The industry is stepping up efforts to train human resources and hire foreign nationals.

Pana HD to train battery personnel in the U.S. to secure “brains” for new plant in Kansas

Panasonic Energy is hurrying to develop battery human resources in the U.S. In preparation for its Kansas plant scheduled to start operation in March 2025, the company is partnering with the University of Kansas to promote R&D of lithium-ion batteries for EVs and to train professional human resources. The company is considering the establishment of a joint lab and a new scholarship program, and aims to secure local human resources.
The Kansas plant has an annual production capacity of approximately 30 gigawatt-hours and plans to employ approximately 4,000 new workers. Learning from the problems in securing human resources at the Nevada plant in the past, the company is emphasizing site selection and collaboration with educational institutions.
The company plans to increase its workforce by approximately 5,000 by FY2025, with an increase of approximately 3,000 in North America. In Japan, the company has also initiated a technical personnel training program to achieve growth and stable operation of the global battery business.
SOLIZE spins off its software engineering business and establishes a new company, STELAQ.

SOLIZE announced on July 19, 2024, that it will spin off its software engineering business into a new company, STELAQ, which was launched in January 2022 and handles system design, PMO support, test design, and consulting, and has recently started IT human resource development.
