Research and development of carbon fiber reinforced plastic (CFRP) for use as a structural material for satellites and thermal protection systems and ablators (TPS; Thermal Protection System) for use in atmospheric re-entry systems that return to Earth from space.

Job Description

  • Responsibilities
    You will promote, from a leading position, the development of advanced, ultra-lightweight, low-loss thermal protection systems that optimally design and construct functional heat-resistant materials to exhibit the required thermal and physical response, using optimal blending and configuration of reinforcing fibers and thermosetting technology with matrix resins, while also working on your own hands.
    You will work with the materials development team to advance the manufacturing technology for high-strength, lightweight CFRP panels and develop the next generation of ultra-lightweight, low-loss ablators.
  • Requirements
    Experience in research and development of Fiber Reinforced Plastics (FRP; Fiber Reinforced Plastics) and ability to perform material prototyping on your own.
    ・Familiarity with manufacturing processes for fiber reinforced plastics.
    ・In-depth knowledge of heat transfer, thermodynamics, materials science, and organic chemistry.
  • Preferred
    Experience in development of thermal protection systems (TPS; Thermal Protection System) such as ablators
    - Experience in development of space vehicles such as re-entry vehicles, satellites, and rockets
    - PhD in materials or chemistry
    - Experience in R&D at a start-up
