Your resume is an important document that verifies your profile. In addition to essential information such as name, contact information, address, and educational background, there are also sections that can be freely formatted, such as personal statement, hobbies and special skills, reasons for applying, commuting time, and personal preferences.

Resume Format

Choose a format that contains the required fields and that you are comfortable with. Be sure to fill out the form completely and make sure your submission is up-to-date.

Fonts should generally be in Mincho typeface. The font should be easy to read and convey a neat impression.

➊ Date

When changing jobs, be sure to clearly indicate the date you are submitting the information. Be sure to keep the information up-to-date, as it may be unreliable if it is not up-to-date.

Use a consistent western year notation throughout your documents. Many hiring companies, not only foreign companies, will check your resume. Therefore, it will be easier to understand if you use the western calendar.

❷ Photographs

Generally, the most common size specification is “36-40 mm in height and 24-30 mm in width,” but a photo of 40 mm in height x 30 mm in width is optimal.

White, blue, or gray background colors are recommended.

Your photo is an important element in making a first impression. Pay attention to facial expression, hair style, and clothing, and choose a photo that is less than three months old if at all possible. Visual information has a great impact on your image. Keep in mind that appropriate photo preparation will help you pass the screening process.

Examples of NG in the application screening process

  • The selection was sent off using photos from many years ago.
  • Casual interviews were turned down due to a bad impression with a shaggy haircut.

<For men

  • Hairstyle: Clear around the ears and raised so that the forehead is visible.
  • Beard: Basically shave.
  • Facial expression: natural, slightly upturned corners of the mouth, not glaring or looking grumpy.
  • Dress: Suits are safe. Wear a blue or navy blue tie.

<For women

  • Hairstyle: tied or swept to the side so that the face is clearly visible. The impression is brighter when eyebrows are visible.
  • Facial expression: natural and slightly lift the corners of the mouth a little. Keep the makeup natural and not too thick.
  • Clothing: A collared suit or jacket is safe for resumes. Wear a white or blue shirt and leave off accessories.

*It is fine to keep your glasses on, but it is a good idea to wear the same outfit for the interview as well.

❸ Contact

Companies will use this information to guide you through the selection and future hiring process. Be especially careful to avoid typographical errors. Include a cell phone number and e-mail address where you can be reached during the day.

❹ Career

♦Education and Employment History
Write in chronological order and do not abbreviate the company name, but use the official name. If you have been transferred to a different department, please include the name of the department and the year and month of the transfer.

♦In case of merger or consolidation
If the company name has changed, enter the name in the form of the company name at the time of hire (current company name).
Example: Turnpoint Automobile Corporation (now Turnpoint Mobility Corporation)

❺ Licenses and certifications

When listing your license or certification, make sure you have the official name. If you have something that is not a certification but is valid as a certificate, include the name of the organization or course.

Also, include the date of acquisition so that we know when it was acquired.

Self-PR: For details, please refer to “How to Write Self-PR for Resume”.

Emphasize that your experience and skills are a good fit with the company’s corporate values and the position being advertised. To do this, you must select the most effective aspects of your career experience and skills and include them in your writing.

Commuting time: Total time (minimum time) from home to office one way in increments of 5 minutes.
